Today our team is going to help put your mind at ease by giving you the necessary information you need to know about your dental bridge appointment.
Generally during the first appointment with your dentist, the teeth the dental bridge will rest on will be prepared by removing a portion of the tooth’s enamel to allow room for the crown to be placed over them. Afterwards, your dentist will make impressions of your teeth which will serve as the model for the bridge to be made in.
While the bridge is being made in a dental lab, your dentist will make a temporary bridge for you to wear to protect your exposed teeth and gums. Once your custom bridge has been molded and made, you will visit your dentist for a second appointment where they will check and adjust, if necessary, the bridge to achieve a proper fit.
If you’re dental bridge is fixed, meaning it’s permanently placed on your teeth, your dentist may temporarily cement the bridge into place for a couple of weeks to make sure it is fitting properly. After those couple of weeks, if the bridge has been placed correctly, your dentist will cement the bridge permanently into place. Remember, only your dentist will be able to remove the bridge after it is cemented, don’t try and remove it yourself.
After your appointment, it’s important to care for your dental bridge by brushing your teeth twice a day and using a mouthwash. If you have any questions about dental bridges, give our office a call today at 970.259.1646.
